TerraFold™ began with the idea that a Pilates reformer could be engineered as movement equipment and considered as an object in the room at the same time. Performance, folding, materials, proportion and serviceability therefore belong to the same design problem.
Why rethink the reformer?
Traditional reformers are usually designed for dedicated exercise environments. In a home or hospitality space, the object remains visible long after the workout ends. Elemental approached that visibility as a design requirement.
Full-scale first
The intention was not to shrink the reformer into a compact substitute. TerraFold™ is designed around a full-scale practice when open, with folding used to reduce its presence between sessions.
Rounded contact and visual softness
Large exercise equipment can feel mechanically severe. Rounded profiles and considered contact points soften both the visual language and the places where the body meets the object.
Materials for more environments
Marine-grade ropes, outdoor powder coating and yacht-grade upholstery were selected as part of an outdoor-minded material strategy. These choices do not remove the need for care; protected placement remains preferable for long product life.
Designing for service
Long-lived equipment should anticipate wear. TerraFold™ is designed with disassembly, repair and component-level servicing in mind where appropriate, rather than treating the complete object as disposable.
When equipment becomes part of architecture
The goal is simple: when the workout ends, the reformer should still make sense in the space around it. Explore TerraFold™.
